What Happened in 2024, Stays in 2024

What happened to 2024? We cannot deny that the calendar has turned over and we are now in a new year! Sadly, even though the calendar turned, thoughts and consequences of  the negative, hurtful, devastating circumstances…

What happened to 2024? It’s been a quite a year; some good and some bad, but time rolls on and the calendar always turns. Now we find ourselves in a new year!

Sadly, even though the new year is here, thoughts and consequences of  the negative, hurtful, devastating circumstances come back to haunt us. Science tells us that placing our focus on negative thoughts, struggles, or the traumas of the past, can affect our productivity and our mental health.

In the Bible, the Apostle Paul in the Bible, advises: “…one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what likes ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 ESV)

Believe me - I’ve had a lot of trauma this year. There were times when I was so burdened by attacks from loved ones, overwhelmed with the plight and struggles of family members, and run ragged with health concerns, I sometimes wondered how I could go on. You may have faced similar problems this year. Add in the traumas from previous years, and soon we are bent over, unable to function, due to the heavy weight we carry.

That’s why I love the freedom offered by that verse in Philippians 3:13-14.  It tells us not to dwell on the past, but instead, to look to the future, focusing on what God has for us as we press (eagerly) forward. The rest of the verse reminds us of the prize awarded (heavenly rewards and overflowing joy) as we continue to follow God as he calls and directs us upward in his kingdom.

So many things must happen in that process. Things like “bringing our every thought captive, making it obedient to God” (2 Corinthians 10:5), and recognizing that we are at war with our adversary, the devil, who wants us to be beaten down, guilt ridden and defeated, by being bound to our past. (2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 6:12; John 10:10)

An important piece of pressing forward, is the process of bringing our thoughts captive to what is Godly. If a thought brings feelings of guilt, regret, or overwhelm—I repent, forgive, or give it to God(I Peter 5:7). The next time it comes my way, I say, “I am a child of God, washed by the blood of Jesus Christ. That problem is under the blood of Jesus.”

Then I begin to readjust my thinking, by meditating on the Word and God’s goodness.  Singing songs of worship, drives those thoughts back into the past. (Philippians 4:8)

As we start this new year, will you  join me as we abolish all our “stinkin’ thinking?” Let what happened in 2024, STAY in 2024.  May we put all our destructive thoughts under the blood of Jesus making them obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ.

As you begin your walk with God, in true victory in 2025, meditate on this verse in Hebrews:

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
— Hebrews 12:1-2

It all begins with an idea.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
